Desktop motherboard repair

Power light on but nothing on screen, a PC that died after a power cut, swollen capacitors, dead USB or LAN ports. We repair the board, or tell you when a replacement makes more sense.

Surya Computers repairs desktop motherboards at our shop in Tragad, near Nirma University, for both branded office PCs and assembled towers. Faults are traced at component level, the same way we handle laptop boards.

Is it really the motherboard?

Before blaming the board we rule out the cheaper parts, because they cause the same symptoms:

  1. SMPS: a weak power supply gives no power, random restarts, or a PC that starts only on the second try. See SMPS repair.
  2. RAM: dirty contacts cause "power on, no display" and long beeps. Cleaning and reseating often fixes it.
  3. Graphics card and cable: a loose card or a monitor cable in the wrong port gives a black screen.
  4. CMOS battery: a flat coin cell causes wrong dates, BIOS errors and boot loops.

Board faults we repair

  • Swollen or leaking capacitorsBulging tops near the CPU. Replaced with quality parts.
  • Power section (VRM) failureOften after a surge or a failing SMPS.
  • Corrupted BIOSAfter a failed update or a power cut mid-update. Reprogrammed.
  • Dead USB, LAN or audio portsDamaged by static or a faulty device.

Use a UPS. Many desktop boards that die after summer power cuts were on PCs plugged straight into the wall. A basic UPS and a branded SMPS prevent most of this.

Common questions

Repair or new motherboard: which is cheaper?

For a recent board, component repair is usually cheaper. For older desktops (Intel 3rd–6th gen), compatible boards are easy to find and sometimes cost less than a complex repair. We give you both prices when that's the case.

Will a new motherboard need Windows reinstalled?

Often Windows starts fine on a board with the same chipset family. If the board is different, Windows may need repairing or reinstalling, and activation may need your Microsoft account or licence key.

Can you tell what's wrong from the beep sound?

Beep codes are a good clue. They differ by board maker, so tell us the pattern (for example, one long and two short) along with the brand.

Something not working? Call before you come.

We can often tell over the phone whether it's a quick fix or a day's job.
