Data backup setup
Set it up once, and your files, photos and accounts data get copied automatically. Cheaper than any data recovery, and it works when a laptop is stolen too.
Surya Computers sets up automatic backups for home laptops, office PCs and small business networks in Chandkheda, Tragad, Motera, Gota and around Nirma University. Every setup ends with a test restore, so you know it actually works.
Pick what suits you
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| External drive + Windows File History | Home users, students | Drive must stay connected or be plugged in weekly |
| Cloud (OneDrive, Google Drive) | Documents, photos, working from anywhere | Storage limits; sync isn't the same as versioned backup |
| NAS in the office | Several PCs, Tally, shared files | Keep a second copy off-site too |
What we set up
- Decide what mattersDocuments, photos, Tally data, project folders, email archives.
- Automatic scheduleDaily or hourly copies with older versions kept.
- Second locationCloud or a drive kept elsewhere, for theft and fire.
- Test restoreWe delete a test file and bring it back in front of you.
Cost comparison: a decent external drive costs far less than recovering data from a failed disk, and recovery is never guaranteed. See data recovery if it's already too late.
Common questions
Is OneDrive or Google Drive enough as a backup?
Sync services help, but they copy deletions and ransomware damage too. A proper backup keeps older versions. A mix of cloud sync plus an external drive or NAS with versions is safer.
How often should I back up?
Daily for work and accounts data, weekly for a home PC. Automatic is the key word; manual backups stop happening after a month.
What's the 3-2-1 rule?
Three copies of your data, on two different types of storage, with one copy kept somewhere else (cloud or another building). It sounds like a lot, but a laptop, an external drive and a cloud folder already meet it.
