Desktop SMPS and power supply replacement
No power at all, a click and shutdown, restarts under load, or a burning smell from the back of the cabinet. The SMPS is the first thing we check.
We test and replace desktop power supplies (SMPS) at Surya Computers in Tragad, and onsite at offices nearby. Office PCs are usually fixed the same day.
Why SMPS units fail around here
Ahmedabad's summer is hard on power supplies: heat inside the cabinet, voltage dips, power cuts and the surge when supply comes back. Dust clogs the SMPS fan, the unit runs hotter, and capacitors inside age faster. Cheap unbranded units that came with the cabinet are the first to go.
Symptoms
| What you notice | How likely the SMPS is the cause |
|---|---|
| Nothing happens at all, fans don't spin | Very likely |
| Starts only after several presses | Very likely |
| Restarts during games or heavy work | Likely, or overheating |
| Click, then shuts down within seconds | Likely, or a short elsewhere |
| Burning smell or buzzing from the back | Switch off. Replace it. |
Branded units only
A cheap SMPS often claims a wattage it can't really deliver and lacks proper protection circuits. When it fails, it can take the motherboard with it. We fit branded units with honest ratings and protection, sized for your PC with some headroom. [CONFIRM: SMPS brands you usually fit]
Pair it with a UPS and you've removed the most common cause of dead desktops in summer.
Common questions
How do I know the SMPS is the problem?
Classic signs are no power at all with a known-good socket, the PC starting only after several tries, random restarts when gaming or under load, and a click followed by shutdown. We confirm with a tester before replacing it.
Can a bad SMPS damage other parts?
Yes. A cheap or failing power supply can send unstable voltage and damage the motherboard, hard disk or graphics card when it fails. That's why we fit branded units.
What wattage do I need?
A typical office PC needs 400–450 W of genuine capacity. A gaming PC depends on the graphics card; we work it out from your parts list.
Something not working? Call before you come.
We can often tell over the phone whether it's a quick fix or a day's job.
