For Nirma University students

We're on the road behind campus. Laptop broke the week before exams, need a budget laptop for first year, or 40 pages printed and bound by 9 am? Walk over.

Surya Computers is at Aristo Anandam, on the road behind Nirma University in Tragad. Students come in for laptop repairs, budget and refurbished laptops, Windows and software setup, and printing and binding for submissions.

Laptop trouble mid-semester

The faults students bring us most: a cracked screen from a bag that got dropped, a charging port loosened by charging on the bed, a keyboard after a chai spill in the hostel, and a laptop that's become painfully slow with an old hard disk. Most of these are same-day or next-day jobs. See laptop repair or check rough prices.

Exam or submission tomorrow and the laptop won't start? Bring it in. Before anything else, we'll get your project files off the drive onto a pen drive so you can keep working on a lab PC or a friend's laptop.

Buying your first laptop

Don't buy on specs alone. Ask your seniors which software your branch actually uses, then match the laptop to that. A few things we tell every student:

  • SSD is non-negotiable. A hard disk laptop feels slow from day one.
  • 8 GB RAM is the floor, 16 GB is comfortable for coding with many browser tabs open.
  • Check the keyboard and hinge in person. You'll type thousands of pages of lab reports on it.
  • Refurbished business laptops (ThinkPad, Latitude, EliteBook) often outlast new budget ones. See refurbished laptops.

Software setup

Windows reinstall with all drivers, Office with your college account, Python, VS Code and other dev tools set up so they work on the first try. Genuine software only. See software installation.

Print, xerox and bind

Send the PDF on WhatsApp, tell us copies and binding, and collect it on your way back from class. Leave a 3 cm left margin for spiral binding. Before deadlines, send files a day early to skip the evening rush. See printing, binding and xerox.

Common questions

Which laptop do I need for my engineering course?

For most first and second-year students, a laptop with an SSD, 8 to 16 GB RAM and a decent processor is enough for coding, MATLAB and Office. Design, CAD and machine learning courses can need more RAM and a dedicated GPU. Ask your department or seniors what software you'll run, then tell us.

Is a refurbished laptop OK for college?

Yes, if it's a business-grade model with an SSD and a healthy battery. It'll handle coursework for years at a lower price than a new budget laptop. We show you the battery health before you buy.

My laptop died before submission. Can you save my project files?

Usually yes. Even if the laptop won't start, the files are on the drive. We can copy them to a pen drive, often the same day.

Do you have student discounts?

[CONFIRM: confirm any student discount and what ID is needed]

Something not working? Call before you come.

We can often tell over the phone whether it's a quick fix or a day's job.
