Laptop screen replacement
Cracked panel, vertical lines, a black screen with sound, or a display that flickers when you move the lid. We find out whether it's the panel or the cable, then quote.
We replace laptop screens for HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer and other brands at our shop behind Nirma University, Tragad. Most 15.6-inch HD screens are done the same day when the panel is in stock.
Panel or cable? Check this first
Not every bad picture means a new screen. A few clues help us, and you, guess before the laptop is even opened:
| What you see | Most likely cause |
|---|---|
| Spider-web cracks, black ink-like patches | Broken panel |
| Thin vertical or horizontal coloured lines | Panel failing, sometimes the cable |
| Flickers or goes blank when you move the lid | Display cable worn at the hinge |
| Very dim picture, visible with a torch | Backlight failure in the panel |
| Black screen, but fan and lights on | Could be RAM or board. Test with an external monitor |
What the price depends on
Laptops with the same name often use different panels. An HP 15s from one year may take a 30-pin HD panel, and the next year's model a 40-pin FHD one. So we ask for the exact model number from the sticker underneath, or read the panel's own part number once the bezel is off.
- Size: 14", 15.6" and 17.3" are the usual sizes.
- Resolution: HD (1366×768) panels cost less than FHD (1920×1080).
- Panel type: IPS panels give better colours and viewing angles than TN, and cost more.
- Touch: touch-screen assemblies are much costlier and are quoted by model.
- Grade: original or compatible. See how we work for the difference.
How the replacement is done
- Model checkWe confirm the panel part number and connector before ordering, so the wrong panel never gets fitted.
- SwapBezel off, old panel out, new panel in, cable re-seated. On some slim models the whole lid assembly has to come apart.
- TestDead pixels, brightness at full and low, colours, and hinge movement with the screen on.
A cracked screen on a laptop that fell? Check the hinge and the lid corners too. A fall that cracks the panel often cracks the hinge mount, and fixing both together saves a second visit.
Is it worth it on an old laptop?
For a laptop older than six or seven years with a slow hard disk, a new screen plus an SSD may cost close to a refurbished laptop. We'll give you both prices so you can decide.
Common questions
How do I know if it's the screen or something else?
Connect the laptop to a TV or monitor with HDMI. If the picture looks fine there, the laptop works and the problem is the screen or its cable. If the external display is also blank, the fault is deeper, usually the board or RAM.
Is a compatible screen as good as the original?
A good compatible panel has the same size, resolution and connector, and looks the same for everyday use. Colour accuracy and brightness can be a little lower than an original IPS panel. We tell you which grade is going in.
Can you replace only the glass?
Laptop screens are a single sealed panel, so the whole panel is replaced. Glass-only repair is for phones, not laptops.
My screen flickers only when I move the lid. What is it?
Usually the display cable that runs through the hinge. It wears with years of opening and closing. A cable replacement costs much less than a panel.
Will my data be safe?
Yes. A screen replacement doesn't touch the hard disk or Windows.
Something not working? Call before you come.
We can often tell over the phone whether it's a quick fix or a day's job.
